CAMP BOOMERANG
An inclusion-based day camp for typical children and children with autism.
Camp Boomerang™ immerses children with autism (ages 5-15) into the conventional summer day camp experience at Siskey YMCA. All campers participate side by side in age appropriate activities that include nature, parachute, field sports, low ropes, tower, fishing, swimming, devotions plus arts and crafts. In addition, campers take part in specialized enrichment activities several times per week.
We provide support staff (peer buddies, two-on-one staffing and one-on-one staffing) to children with autism. Camp leadership determines the individual staffing model. Our staff and volunteers are not equipped to handle significant behavioral challenges. We encourage parents to discuss specific circumstances with the Program Director prior to enrollment to check if Camp Boomerang™ is able to appropriately meet your family and camper needs.
We accept a maximum of 30 campers with autism or other special needs per week. In accordance with YMCA camping guidelines, campers must be fully toilet trained (not in pull-ups or diapers) to participate in Camp Boomerang™ and must not have any significant aggressive behavior issues. Complete Siskey YMCA Day Camp Registration and Camp Boomerang™ Camper Application required. First come, first serve; limit three weeks. Financial assistance is available.
We are proud to offer year-round recreational programming for people on the autism spectrum at Camp Royall.
We offer a host of programs, including the nation’s oldest and largest summer camp program for people on the spectrum. In addition, we provide Year-Round Week-Long Camps, Mini-Camp Weekends, and Adult Retreats for those 18 and older with Asperger’s Syndrome or high-functioning autism. Our Family Fun Day program is very popular as well, providing a great day of engaging activities and encouraging all kinds of fun as a family. To expand on the fun day, we also offer an overnight camping opportunity for families through our Family Camping program. Finally, each December we host a holiday party for families, providing a great way to ring in the holiday season.
